If a day goes by without doing photography, it's as though I've neglected something essential to my existence, as though I'd forgotten to wake... -Richard Avedon

painting "...modern criticism, language and imagery have become enigmas, problems to be explained, prison houses which lock the understanding away from the world. The commonplace of modern studies of images, in fact, is that they must be understood as a kind of language; instead of providing a transparent window on the world, images are now regarded as the sort of sign that presents a deceptive appearance of naturalness and transparence concealing an opaque, distorting, arbitrary mechanism of representation, a process of ideological mystification."
W.J.T. Mitchell, "What is an Image?" New Literary History

A toy collection crying out for use, tarnished but whole. Trapped in a basement for almost 30 years, now brought into the light to celebrate.

Challenges: first a state of confusion, where lines of thought have no clear conclusion. As we study a problem some pattern emerges, and we see a series of steps. These steps eventually lead to a visualization of the goal.

This photograph explores the interaction between the body and the landscape. The site was treacherous, but afforded an interesting dynamic between the model and the desert- like hillside. The legs appear from out of the rock, gaining life as they emerge.
